Jasmine giggles merrily. “No, but I think we should allow some complaining. That’s what friends are for right? To help you get things that are bothering you off your chest? A sympathetic ear. A shoulder to cry on. Or vent on.” She smiles warmly at her friends.
“Seconded. Everyone needs to complain sometimes, I certainly do. Otherwise I’d explode! Jaq gets to hear most of my complaining, poor thing.” she chuckled. “Though I have a lot less to complain about these days. Even so, I never want either of you to think that you can’t talk to me for whatever reason. About anything, no matter what. Some things are too painful to keep hidden.”
Snow took a deep, if somewhat shaky, breath. The urge to tell them about Phillip - the lessons and getting the Mirror back - was almost overpowering, and she’d found herself more alone than ever lately. Even the Mirror hadn’t forgiven her yet; she’d tried to talk to him the other day, and he’d faded to only smoke.
No. It was her secret and Phillip’s. She trusted him to keep it, and she would as well. She’d certainly try, anyway. “I’m afraid you’ll be hearing lots of boring things about the Council from me…”

“So basically, you can do whatever the hell you want?” he smirked at her, cocking a brow at the Queen. It was strange thinking of her in that sense, since she was so young. He’d only ever come across a few princesses in his time… for reasons other than what he and Snow were doing now.
He flashed her a grin as she smiled up at him, which soon widened at her tease. “Oh, I just might consider it,” he teased her in return, winking at the ravenette haired girl and pursing his lips. “That is, if I’d even be up to standard.”
“I thought we just agreed that I can do whatever the he—heck I want.” Snow gave him a coy smile, surprised to find that she was enjoying this tiny flirtation. His wink sent a small thrill through her, and she wished she could control her blushes, but forged ahead with her banter anyway, trying to shake her primness loose. “That means I set the standards…and I’m open to suggestions.” She giggled and barely managed to hold back a sigh - there weren’t any men on that list who looked like him. Or were so easy to talk to.

She giggles a little lamely at his comment about ripping his clothes off and lays down, pulling him with her. “Thank you. It feels like that’s all I say to you, that and ‘I’m sorry’ - and I am sorry.”
“I’ll take the thank you, but you can keep the sorry.” He holds her tight as they settle down together. “Everyone has a past Snow, some had their painted a little more darkly. But that doesn’t change that I am very much in awe in the woman you are now, and your past helped form the woman you are now. So never apologise to me about that. I’m in it for the long run, if you’ll have me.”
It sounds so appealing, but she can’t quite let herself think ‘long run’ yet. “Can you wait for me to make it through the short run first? It might take me some time…” She’s only half joking; the connection she feels to him is so strong, but she too full of fear and self-doubt to promise more than a week or two of low-key, make-believe domesticity.
But the longing is powerful, and her fingers seek out his face in the darkness.
